I've waited a while to write this review to truly see how well this product will work. I went cold-turkey off of my Synthroid medication because I just didn't feel any better after having been diagnosed as hypothyroid and put on medication a year earlier. The long list of possible complications was scary, but what was scarier was that my doctor said I would have to be on Synthroid for life. As a vegan and health-conscious person, I just didn't want to be on some synthetic medication that made me feel like a hypocrite. Also, I was only slightly hypothyroid and my levels were fluctuating between slightly hypo and normal, so I didn't feel I was truly "hypothyroid." I ordered NOW Thyroid Energy and took the recommended dose - 2 vcaps twice daily, upon wake up and before going to bed (always an empty stomach!) - in place of my Synthroid. Almost immediately I felt better than I had felt in a while. I could sleep and I didn't need naps during the day, and I had energy! I made sure to continue eating right and stuck to an exercise routine. My doctor was dead set against me going off Synthroid, but said she'd test my thyroid 6 weeks after the date I stopped taking Synthroid to see how it functions on NOW Thyroid Energy. We both took this as a challenge - her to prove she was right, and me to prove that I could manage my body without medications. To her total disbelief, my thyroid normalized itself! She normally calls me to tell me my blood results personally, but this time she had a nurse do it. My TSH ; T3 (very important to test both for a correct diagnosis) were both within normal range 6 weeks off of Synthroid and on NOW Thyroid Energy. Now my thyroid will be tested every 3 months, but things are looking good and I feel GREAT! I really feel that as a vegan who HATES salt, I was probably lacking iodine and that led to my hypothyroid-like symptoms. UPDATE 1: I thought I would add that recently I ran out of this supplement and there was about a week where I was without it. I began getting fatigued, needing naps, my neck started hurting, my face got puffy, and I just didn't feel as well. It's amazing how well this supplement has been managing my symptoms, and I can truly say that now that I've experienced some time without it! UPDATE 2: I went back on this supplement, and things normalized again. I did notice that reducing soy has been important, as when I eat more soy my thyroid symptoms come back whether or not I'm taking this supplement. My bloodwork numbers are still good and my doctor is still comfortable with me taking this supplement instead of a medication!
This product really helps to combat some of my hypo thyroid symptoms, especially dry skin and hair. I will continue to purchase it!
